Typically I’ve just placed a sizeable Crunchyroll order but good to see the next batch go live.
 
Nothing for me there. Based on their current slate, I'm just waiting for the Yello version of Cobra. I can't recall Discotek ever having so few upcoming titles that interest me.
 
Here's another batch of titles that I've tested the discs for. Will update the first post on that soon. It does look like all of the new titles moving forward are completely region locked.

To recap, there are two methods tested - traditional top-menu i.e. on PS5, and Panasonic top-menu method (pressing Stop, then Top-Menu afterwards).

In terms of the latest updates. MediaOCD have announced they have managed to locate the English dub for the second half of the Looking for the Full Moon anime. The first part is now available to pre-order on MediaOCD's store for SRP $59.95 with an exclusive slipcover though it will likely be geolocked like the previous recent titles. Scheduled for 12th August, the first part covers episodes 1-26 and is Region Free also.

The latest Discotek Media titles, i.e. the May line-up, have started shipping already and there will be more stock for Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend and Special Investigation Robo Janperson. As a recap, both Kekko Kamen Original Movie Collection and Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend are not available on Crunchyroll Store due to their explicitness.

The Discotek website has yet to update on any new OOP notices but some folks are experiencing issues trying to pick up some of the older Lupin the Third TV specials like The Columbus Files, so its worth picking them up sooner than later if you were trying to go for a complete TV specials Blu-ray collection for the series. Crunchyroll Store still has stock for various OOP titles so its not too late to grab them.

In terms of when we will next see some Discotek release announcements, I reckon either May or June and then it'll be Otakon. Considering they have been expanding their Nihon Nights and Toku Time line-ups, now is actually a good opportunity to catch up on those older anime releases especially given anything released up to 2023 is now in the 'you should grab this sooner' territory.

Hmm, it really does feel like Discotek are shifting out of the anime business. :(

If anyone is concerned about blind-buying Toei's tokusatsu shows, it's always worth checking whether any episodes are available on their official Youtube channel. Quite a few series have the first episode or two on there, often with English subtitles.

Yeah, I was only ever invested in Discotek at all for anime titles and nothing else; I have zero interest in their Live Action or Tokusatsu stuff. It's really sad to see them moving so far away from anime as they have already. On top of that, I'm not a fan of much pre-1995 anime, and am especially uninterested in vintage mecha series, so there really isn't that much anime they do release which is appealing to me anyway. I still used to buy a decent amount of anime titles from them in their earlier days just because of their wide and varied anime selections, but now an occasional shoujo title popping up here and there seems about it for me over the last two years from them. 🥱

None of their live action stuff interests me at all. I haven't bought anything from them since Lupin the 3rd - The Secret Page of Marco Polo in August 2024. To be fair, the large majority of the anime they release is of no interest to me, but I have bought most of their Lupin, City Hunter, Kimagure Orange Road and some of those random limited licenses they had like Aho Girl and Holmes of Kyoto. I think they've mostly moved away from anything I want though in favor of the much older stuff like classic robot shows, which just aren't for me.

So I don't really expect much from them and thus don't generally get disappointed, but used to get something that would surprise me now and then, and that's not happening much anymore. I might be interested in Angel Heart, but I understand the quality is somewhat poor due to the nature of the source, and I'm not too forgiving of that so I don't know if it's worth the cost to me.

Haha, yeah, and as you might notice from the very close time stamps, I wrote mine before I saw yours; as I was about to submit it I got the message that more posts had happened which was yours. I did check it before I posted and noticed how it was practically a copy of what I was writing so I added the second paragraph so it didn't read as just a literal copy of yours. :p
